Our Mission

Our mission is to play our part locally in God’s global gospel work of bringing people to new life and growth in Jesus Christ.

Our Vision

Our vision is to see lives in Rydalmere, Oatlands, Dundas and Telopea transformed by Jesus, through a church where people are growing deeply in their faith and boldly sharing their hope from our neighbourhood to the nations.

Our History

In his wisdom and love our Heavenly Father gave the land on which we meet to the Burramatta clan of the Darug people. On this land they met for generations until the coming of the British settlers. We pray that God would unite us all through a knowledge of his Son, Jesus Christ.

Our church has been making disciples of Jesus Christ for nearly 100 years. In the early 20th century, the area was rural and lacked a nearby Anglican church until St Andrew’s Rydalmere was established in 1926. As the population grew after World War II, St Stephen’s Telopea was opened in 1962 to serve the expanding community. In 2014, in response to changing needs, the church decided to sell both buildings and build a new combined ministry centre. After final services in 2016, our congregations moved to a temporary location.

The new site in Rydalmere was purchased and, after many delays, construction began in 2024. The church has adopted the new name, Shepherd’s Wharf Anglican Church, to reflect our location close to the Parramatta River and our longing for people to know Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd.

Our Beliefs

We are an evangelical Anglican church in the Diocese of Sydney. Our understanding of what the Bible teaches is outlined in two documents from 500 years ago, The 39 Articles of Religion and the Book of Common Prayer. Here are two key statements (in original language):

Article VI

"Holy Scripture containeth all things necessary to salvation: so that whatsoever is not read therein, nor may be proved thereby, is not to be required of any man, that it should be believed as an article of the Faith, or be thought requisite or necessary to salvation."

Article XI

"We are accounted righteous before God, only for the merit of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ by Faith, and not for our own works or deservings: Wherefore, that we are justified by Faith only is a most wholesome Doctrine, and very full of comfort, as more largely is expressed in the Homily of Justification."

Our Values

We are shaped by the Bible in every area.

We depend on God in prayer for everything.

We prioritise the next generation.

We welcome people from every nation and background.

We celebrate individuals responding to Jesus.

We serve together enthusiastically.

We give generously and act creatively.
