Our History
In his wisdom and love our Heavenly Father gave the land on which we meet to the Burramatta clan of the Darug people. On this land they met for generations until the coming of the British settlers. We pray that God would unite us all through a knowledge of his Son, Jesus Christ.
Our church has been making disciples of Jesus Christ for nearly 100 years. In the early 20th century, the area was rural and lacked a nearby Anglican church until St Andrew’s Rydalmere was established in 1926. As the population grew after World War II, St Stephen’s Telopea was opened in 1962 to serve the expanding community. In 2014, in response to changing needs, the church decided to sell both buildings and build a new combined ministry centre. After final services in 2016, our congregations moved to a temporary location.
The new site in Rydalmere was purchased and, after many delays, construction began in 2024. The church has adopted the new name, Shepherd’s Wharf Anglican Church, to reflect our location close to the Parramatta River and our longing for people to know Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd.
